[ENG] Transatlantic Lesbian Genealogies is an investigation into the lesbian -leather and punk - culture that emerged in San Francisco from the 1980s onwards, in the shadow of the city’s more widely recognised gay history.
It is an oral history comprising 43 biographical interviews.
It is a search for traces, drawing on hundreds of archival documents collected from private and public collections.
It is a visual history, featuring the dyke and trans photographers and filmmakers who invented new narratives and representations.
It is a cartography of the queer city and the subcommunities that shaped it.
It tells the story of an underground artistic and political pulse that gave rise to the queer culture we have since inherited.
